Distriubution: Independent Film Distributors

1) Ten Steps Of Film Distribution

  1. Their has to be an idea for a film (it can be anything)
  2. The distributor tries to identify and deliver the film to the specified target audience. They can choose from either: Print, E-Media or Broadcast
  3. The first job of a distributor is to find out who the target audience is. Then they have to figure out how this audience would see the film. A challenge is to identify and develop plans to build awareness to the film.
  4. The UK has 6 main distributors which are linked to Hollywood.
  5. The film has to firstly be obtained by the film distributor, this can be done through a sales agent.
  6. There has to be a signed contract between both the distributor and the film studio.
  7. Distributor decides when its best to release a film so that the film can get as much revenue as possible.
  8. Film is then licensed to exhibitors so that film prints are kept safe and secure.

Exhibition: Art House Cinemas

Electric is based at Nottinghill Gate. Usually they show art house films however recently they have been showing more mainstream movies such as The Hunger Games. The Electric is different from the mainstream cinemas, such as VUE, because it shows foreign films. Furthermore, The Electric cinema's screening room is designed in an olden days fashion. The Electric cinema itself only has one screening room whereas, The VUE  has a normal cinema layout with multiple screening rooms. An Arthouse cinema would usually attract 65% Females and 35% Males of the age range 25 - 45. This is because art house cinema's rarely show mainstream films and the films they do show would not have a target audience of less than 25 or more than 45.
